Helsinki Contracts with Greenled for LED Streetlights
Greenled Oy has won a contract to provide LED street lighting for Finland's capital city.
The original tender request emphasized the need for energy efficiency, high-quality optics and a durable design. In the first phase of the Helsinki LED project, Greenled is set to deliver 1700 of its Sirius outdoor luminaires.
"The market for LED luminaires is currently growing at an annual rate of 20 percent," said Greenled CEO Pertti Tahvanainen. "The Sirius outdoor luminaire is a great example of a successful Finnish product that is based on sustainable development and advanced technology."
The market share for LED luminaires is estimated to rise to 70 percent of the global lighting market by 2019. The steadily growing market share of LED luminaires within the European Union is further facilitated by several factors including regulatory changes, such as the EU Energy Efficiency Directive, and several major retailers banning the sale of incandescent light bulbs.
