Hasselblad, DJI Form Aerial Imaging Partnership
Aerial technology company DJI of Shenzhen, China, has acquired a strategic minority stake in aerial photography product developer Victor Hasselblad AB. DJI (Da-Jiang Innovations Science and Technology Co. Ltd.) will join Hasselblad's board of directors as part of a strategic partnership; financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Hasselblad and DJI will each focus on their individual strategic directions and related growth opportunities, with marketing and branding platforms continuing to delineate the two companies. Hasselblad cameras and equipment will continue to be handmade in Sweden, and DJI will continue to make products in Shenzhen.
DJI recently launched the modular Zenmuse camera system, including the Zenmuse X5 Raw, a micro four-thirds camera optimized for moving in space.
Hasselblad technology has been used in space on several NASA missions, including the first landing on the moon and several of the Apollo missions. Founded in 1941, the company has mainly focused on traditional medium-format cameras and photography equipment but has recently released products within the aerial arena.
DJI is a global developer and manufacturer of camera technology for commercial and recreational use with applications in film, advertising, construction, fire-fighting and farming, among other industries.
