Skorpios Expands Silicon Photonics Manufacturing Capabilities in New Mexico
Fabless silicon photonic integrated circuit manufacturer Skorpios Technologies Inc. has secured funding to acquire and upgrade a facility to expand its R&D, test and assembly capabilities.
Skorpios will receive $5.5 million in state funding provided via the Local Economic Development Act (LEDA); additionally, the city of Albuquerque will contribute $1.5 million in funding through LEDA to support the company's expansion efforts. The expanded operations will create up to 300 jobs in New Mexico over the next few years, the company said.
Skorpios plans to deliver its first pluggable transceiver product later this year. The company's products are based on a proprietary wafer-scale silicon photonics process and address a range of applications including high-speed video, data and voice communications for networking and cloud computing, storage, wireless and cable TV.
