NKT Photonics Supplies Supercontinuum Lasers to Leica Microsystems

Leica Microsystems GmbH has signed a 14-month supply contract with NKT Photonics A/S to deliver its SuperK EXTREME supercontinuum lasers to power the Leica TCS SP8 X confocal microscope for bioimaging.

The white-light laser enables excitation at any wavelength in the visible range, giving access to a range of fluorophores. The pulsed nature of the SuperK enables study of fast-lifetime phenomena with fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy. The laser can be combined with a stimulated emission depletion module or a light-sheet option for superresolution images beyond the diffraction limit.

NKT Photonics supplies fiber lasers and photonic crystal fibers for imaging, the energy sector and materials processing. Products include optical coherence tomography imaging systems, ultrafast pulsed lasers, ultralow-noise distributed feedback fiber lasers and a range of specialty fibers. Headquartered in Denmark, NKT Photonics is wholly owned by NKT Holding A/S.

Leica Microsystems develops and manufactures microscopes and scientific instruments for the analysis of microstructures and nanostructures.
