Kopin Receives Final Payment from IQE
Wearable technology developer Kopin Corp. has received its final $15 million payment from IQE PLC, a U.K.-based designer and supplier of advanced semiconductor wafers, for its III-V product line of heterojunction bipolar transistors.
Under terms of the January 2013 sale, Kopin sold its advanced integrated circuit business for approximately $70 million in cash. Proceeds from the sale will be invested in the development of wearable components for enterprise and consumer developers of head-mounted displays, as well as the military.
Kopin Corp. develops wearable technologies and solutions for integration into head-worn computing and display systems for military, industrial and consumer customers, with a portfolio that includes ultrasmall displays, optics, speech enhancement technologies, hands-free control software, low-power superspeed interchips and ergonomically designed smart headset reference systems.
