Zeon Lens Used in Award-Winning Glyph Device

Avegant Corp.’s Glyph mediawear, housing Zeon Chemicals LP’s Zeonex cyclo olefin polymers, was awarded “Best of CES” honors at the Consumer Electronics Show.

The Zeonex lenses combine glass-like optical characteristics with the design freedom of a molded plastic. Along with the lenses’ ultra-low haze and ultra-low moisture absorption, the characteristics make them well suited for the Glyph’s patented retinal imaging technology. The device uses advanced optics and microscopic mirrors to project images directly into the wearer’s eyes, recreating natural sight without the need for a screen.

“Our partnership with Avegant to incorporate Zeonex lenses into the Glyph is one example of how our cyclo olefin polymers are at the forefront of emerging technology,” said Toshiro Katayama, senior product manager at Zeon Chemicals.

The Glyph is a personal theater headset designed to give users a private screen with lightweight portability, rich audio and precise video.

“The excellent optical characteristics of molded Zeonex lenses, including its low dispersion and dimensional stability, have helped us to achieve the superior image quality that you see when wearing the Glyph,” said Eamon O’Connor, optomechanical engineer for Avegant.

Avegant is a developer of retinal imaging technology. Zeon Chemicals is a developer of specialty elastomers, polymers and specialty chemicals.
