Integra Optics, TiOptics Join to Form Integra R&D

Fiber optics equipment provider Integra Optics has formed a joint venture with TiOptics Inc., of San Diego, a fiber optic technology research and product development company, for the creation of Integra R&D.

The new business unit aims to strengthen Integra Optics’ product roadmap, repositioning the company as an independent manufacturer of optics technologies and adding a portfolio of hybrid fiber-coaxial products. TiOptics specializes in photonics technology and high-bandwidth optical equipment for cable and internet data connectivity.

“The joint venture with TiOptics’ intellectual property, R&D capabilities and talent — combined with our expertise in optical transceivers — allows us to offer our customers a vast assortment of high-performance equipment, as well as end-to-end service from developing customized solutions to providing on-site support,” said David Prescott, CEO of Integra Optics.

General Manager Charlie Chen will lead the business, with C.K. Sun developing Internet protocol products.

“Specifically, we are focused on turbo solutions to provide the most cost-effective single wavelength 100-G/400-Gbps transport optics at 500 m to 100 km [of] distance within smaller chipsets,” Sun said. “Our unique development of this technology eliminates the costly parallel optics in multiple-transceiver solution and extreme component requirements by the coherent method. This, combined with Integra Optics’ ability to manufacture and deploy these new products will enable the company to drastically reset the market price for this technology.”
