DRS Wins Army Contract for IR Sighting Systems

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Mar. 29 -- DRS Technologies Inc. has won a multi-year contract to provide the US Army with Second-Generation Forward-Looking Infrared sighting systems in support of the Army's Horizontal Technology Integration initiative for the Abrams M1A2 Main Battle Tank System Enhancement Package, the Bradley M2A3 Infantry Fighting Vehicles and the M1025 High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles. The contract, which has a base value of $67 million, contains options that, if exercised, could raise its total value to $118 million.
DRS was awarded the three-year contract by the Army's Communications-Electronics Command in Fort Monmouth, N.J. The upgraded systems will be produced by the company's DRS Sensor Systems unit in Torrance, Calif., and by its DRS Optronics unit in Palm Bay, Fla. DRS plans to commence product deliveries as a result of initial funding on the program in December 2000.
