Advanced Optical Uses Three-Five's Microdisplaysin Light Engine

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Mar. 31 -- Advanced Optical Engineering Inc. has completed designing and developing a light engine that incorporates Three-Five Systems' liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) microdisplay technology. According to Advanced Optical, its Vista light engine is the first of a family of light engines for rear projection monitors, PCTVs and personal display devices. With Three-Five's MD1280 microdisplay, which magnifies and projects an image much larger than the display itself, the light engine offers performance described by Advanced Optical as comparable to high-end computer monitors; the engine delivers SXGA resolution of 1280 columns x 1024 rows, or more than 1.3 million pixels.
Milton Lee, president of Advanced Optical, expects the engine to be adopted rapidly by the company's current clients in the consumer electronics industry. We found that Three-Five is currently the only company capable of producing the required quantities of a high-resolution LCoS display the market demands, Lee stated.
