IPG to Acquire Optical Transmission Firm Menara for $46.8M
IPG Photonics Corp. said it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Menara Networks Inc., developer of enhanced optical transmission modules and systems. The cash purchase price is $46.8 million, subject to closing adjustments. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2016.
IPG said the acquisition will allow it to offer more integrated telecom solutions and expand the company’s current telecom product offerings. Menara’s products are deployed in cable multisystem operators, carriers and data centers in North America and in selected international networks.
IPG Photonics and Menara Networks had recently announced a partnership to provide an integrated solution for simplified repeaterless 100G DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) transmission for metro and data center interconnection. Menara’s product suite of 10G and 100G WDM modules eliminates the need for transponder systems.
IPG Photonics develops and commercializes high-power fiber lasers and amplifiers.
