Superior Essex Begins Fiber Cable Productionat Brownwood Plant

ATLANTA, April 20 -- Superior TeleCom Inc. reported that the expansion of its Superior Essex Communications Group's cable plant in Brownwood, Texas has been completed. The company invested approximately $20 million in upgrading the copper cable plant, enabling it to also handle production of fiber optic cable; Superior Essex said the plant is online, and has produced its first customer order of fiber cables.
While the Brownwood facility will initially produce a variety of outdoor and indoor fiber optic cable products with counts of up to 288 fibers, the company expects the plant to handle higher fiber counts in the future. The timing and execution of our plant expansion was critical, given the increased market demand for fiber optic cable, said Justin Deedy, president of the Superior Essex group.
