Scientific-Atlanta to Invest in Luminous Networks
ATLANTA, April 27 -- Scientific-Atlanta Inc. has signed an equity agreement to invest $10 million in Luminous Networks, a Cupertino, Calif.-based developer of optical transport technology. Scientific-Atlanta also has signed a multi-year contract under which Luminous Networks will supply fiber transport products. In addition, the two companies have agreed to integrate Scientific-Atlanta's video technology into the Luminous Networks platform. Details of the agreements were not disclosed.
[Luminous Networks'] Gigabit IP over fiber technology enables us to provide our customers with low cost, high capacity carrier class transport of a full range of multimedia traffic including analog and digital video, said Paul Connolly, Scientific-Atlanta's vice president of marketing and network architectures. As more and more traffic becomes IP-based, mapping IP directly onto fiber has enormous benefit.
Connolly added, This strategic investment enables us to look into the future of fiber optic R&D and help shape the direction of an important marketplace where we have established a leadership position.
