4-H Camps Receive STEM Grant

The University of Tennessee Extension, along with programs in Colorado, Kentucky and Missouri, has been awarded a $10,000 sponsorship from internet provider HughesNet LLC to implement a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program during its Junior 4-H Camp.

The camps will produce the STEM program through a series of hands-on stations, including zip-lining energy, wildlife ecology and the science of archery.

A program of the Cooperative Extension System and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 4-H serves every county and parish in the U.S. through a network of 110 public universities and more than 3,000 local extension offices. In Tennessee, some 4,500 youth from across the state are expected to attend 4-H Camp this summer.

Youth at this year's Junior 4-H Camp will learn through intentional STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) activities. Examples will include the ecology of wildlife and nature. Courtesy of UTIA.
