Mitutoyo Acquires Stake in Tag Optics
Measurement and metrology company Mitutoyo Corp. has acquired a majority stake in lens developer Tag Optics Inc.
Originally announced in February, the framework agreement between the two companies has, among other on-going joint technological projects, lead to the development of a new Tag lens with the ability to be mass produced by Mitutoyo. The relationship enables Tag to contribute technology to Mitutoyo while continuing to enter new markets in biological, inspection, biometric and machine vision applications. The company plans to focus developmental efforts on creating a new line of imaging systems.
Tag is a developer of tunable lenses for applications ranging from high-precision microscopy to 3D machine vision. Mitutoyo is a provider of measurement solutions, offering a selection of machines, sensors, systems and services with a line encompassing coordinate measuring machines, vision, form and finish measuring machines, as well as precision tools, instruments and metrology data management software.
