Registration Opens for First Webinar of 2017

Please join us for a free webinar, Low-Light Detection: SiPM vs PMT, presented by Hamamatsu Corporation and hosted by Photonics Media. The webinar takes place Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 1 pm EST.

Speaker Slawomir S. Piatek, Ph.D., will discuss two devices capable of detecting very low light levels — the silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) and the photomultiplier tube (PMT). The two devices represent very different technologies – solid-state vs vacuum tube. Each device has a unique set of advantages over the other in various detection situations. 

Piatek will begin with a discussion of the principles of operation of each device, then offer a side-by-side comparison of their optoelectronic characteristics. He will conclude with application examples that illustrate different conditions under which one device would be preferable to the other.

Piatek is a senior university lecturer of physics at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and has developed a photonics training program for engineers at Hamamatsu Corporation in New Jersey. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.
