SPI Lasers Joins the Welding Institute to Foster Fiber Laser Applications
Fiber laser manufacturer SPI Lasers UK Ltd. has become a member of the Welding Institute (TWI) to support the development and promotion of its fiber lasers for industrial welding applications.
“Access to TWI’s joining expertise will greatly enhance our ability to develop new laser sources to tackle the challenging joining requirements of today’s industrial applications,” said Jack Gabzdyl, vice president of SPI’s pulsed laser division.
TWI is an independent research and technology organizations for joining technologies. The relationship will help SPI develop its novel nanosecond pulsed welding process, which TWI will evaluate and add to its portfolio of joining processes. A G4 100-W ns-pulsed fiber laser has been installed at TWI and is capable of marking, engraving, cutting and surface engineering applications, as well as ns welding. The technology will be available to TWI’s industrial membership for application development and project work.
“We are very pleased to welcome SPI Lasers to our industrial membership and are excited by the prospect of working with the new nanosecond pulsed lasers, which have already demonstrated the capability of meeting our members’ needs across a broad range of applications,” said Jon Blackburn of TWI.
SPI Lasers is a designer and manufacturer of fiber lasers for use in materials processing applications.
