SLT Sensor Earns AMA Young Enterprises Award

The AMA Association for Sensors and Measurement, as part of its 2017 Innovation Awards, has given its Young Enterprises prize to Jens Karsten Lange’s team at SLT Sensor- und Lasertechnik GmbH.

The AMA Innovation Awards recognize sensor and measuring technology accomplishments. This year, 41 research and development teams from Germany and abroad submitted their projects for the €10,000 ($11,000) award. Startups that have been active for five years with less than 50 employees and annual revenues less than €10 million were able to compete for the Young Enterprise award. The winning team receives a placement at the SENSOR + TEST 2017 trade show in Nuremberg, Germany, free of charge.

Jens Karsten Lange’s team from SLT Sensor- und Lasertechnik GmbH, along with representatives of PTB, Germany’s National Metrology Institute in Berlin, developed detectors for absolute power measurement in the terahertz spectral range. Until recently, there were no calibrated detectors to evaluate the terahertz power of time-domain spectroscopy (TDS) systems made by different manufacturers. Broadband, extended area and high sensitivity were not available. The sensors developed in the submission meet these requirements and will be sold by SLT including an individual calibration certificate from the PTB.

The AMA Association for Sensors and Measurement is an association of industry and research leaders in the fields of sensing and measurement.
