Turning Technology Into a Business Opportunity

As a scientist, technician or engineer, you are fortunate to be involved with the development of cutting-edge technology on an almost daily basis. But how much of your focus is on the commercial value of the work you are doing? Gaining exposure to the business side of scientific discovery and technology could be transformative for your career — at the very least, it could introduce you to a new way of looking at the technology you design, test, develop and produce.

A businessperson with a Ph.D. in materials science, David Krohn, managing partner in Light Wave Venture LLC, became interested in the business side of technology relatively early in his career.

“Championing an idea and developing it into a business allows you to drive the bus and not be just a passenger,” Krohn said. “After being associated with six start-ups and consulting for 127 companies, I want to convey my experience and insight to others.”

Krohn will be doing just that in his upcoming webinar, “Technology Business Champions’ Guide to Successful Commercialization,” on Thursday, April 13, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Krohn’s presentation will cover the concepts of entrepreneurship and innovation as they relate to the commercialization of technology. He’ll communicate the key elements of commercialization for scientists, engineers and other technical professionals, and show you how to build a business case for your new technology. He will discuss how you can create not just scientific, but also commercial value for the technology you develop.

The biggest obstacle standing in the way of successful scientific commercialization, Krohn believes, is being stuck in a “technology vacuum,” without an understanding of the basic elements of commercialization.

Are you ready to take your technology advances to market, so you and others can benefit from your discoveries? Are you ready to start thinking about it? Then join David Krohn and Photonics Media for “Technology Business Champions’ Guide to Successful Commercialization” on April 13. To register, visit the Photonics Media Bookstore.

Note: This webinar will be available to all registrants as a recording after it is finished. So even if you are unable to make the April 13 date, you do not need to miss this important webinar.
