RMD, Dynasil Subsidiary, Receives $3.5M in DOE Grants

RMD Inc., the contract research subsidiary of optics and photonics products developer Dynasil Corp. of America, has received three Phase Two grants totaling $3.5 million under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs.

"RMD's world-class research continues to be at the forefront of scintillation and laser optics and photonic technologies," said Peter Sulick, CEO and president of Dynasil. "These awards highlight RMD's pivotal role in applying material science to solve fundamental problems in nuclear physics and basic energy sciences and developing laser optics and photonics technologies for use in earth-science modeling to improve weather forecasting."

The company received grants for ultrapure scintillators, laser optics and photonics and high-resolution neutron detectors.

"These Phase Two research projects exemplify some of the world's most demanding research needs," said Kanai Shah, president of RMD. "They capitalize on our technical and scientific capability in the development of scintillation materials and laser optics and photonics. RMD is proud to partner with the Department of Energy on these initiatives."

Dynasil develops and manufactures optics and photonics products, optical detection and analysis technology and components for the homeland security, medical and industrial markets.
