Jenoptik Receives €10M in Automotive Laser Orders
Integrated photonics group Jenoptik AG has received orders for several laser systems with a combined value of €10 million ($11.8 million) from German car manufacturers and automotive suppliers.
The laser machines are used for the contour trimming of structural components, especially for next-generation electric cars. These components are used to implement new car body platforms, which are necessary to protect battery units and to comply with the CO
2 targets. The use of laser is proven to be a flexible and fast high-quality tool, especially for new lightweight materials such as aluminium die casting and high-strength steel.
The Jenoptik-Votan BIM laser systems enable the highly efficient machining of complex metal and plastic parts. Jenoptik has continuously developed the unique system concept, in which the laser beam is guided inside the robotic arm. Based on this technology, the latest system generation has several 3D laser processing robots operating in parallel. The technology provides productivity advantages with a minimum installation area, as well as high flexibility through to the complete integration of the systems into the specific local production process.
Jenoptik's automotive division is a manufacturer of production metrology and 3D laser systems.
