Tecnalia, Leica Partner for 3D Naval Scanning
Technology provider Tecnalia Corporación Tecnológica and Leica Geosystems AG have teamed up to develop a new 3D scanning service for applications in the naval sector.
The customized solutions of the 3D Scanning Services allow point clouds to be used for reverse engineering and 3D modelling, enabling the mapping of large city models to industrial components on a tiny scale. The services are ideally suited for the naval sector when it comes to obtaining hull shapes, doing tank calibrations, and carrying out naval design processes and stability studies.
The 3D scanners from Leica Geosystems capture the geometry of objects without contact, thanks to the emitting of a calibrated light pattern. The scanner's cameras capture the distortion of the light on the object and turn it into a 3D point cloud of the actual dimensions. This service enables accurate, reliable data to be obtained that could not be obtained in the past, thus facilitating better-informed decisions and savings in time and cost.
Leica Geosystems is a developer of measurement and information technologies for surveying and engineering; building and heavy construction; safety and security; and power and plant trust.
