Philips FDS to Produce Fingerprint Recognition Sensor
SAN JOSE, Calif., May 18 -- In a joint venture with Who?Vision Systems Inc., a fingerprint-authentication-technologies and solutions-provider, Philips Flat Display Systems has undertaken volume production of a fingerprint-recognition sensor. Manufactured at Philips' new biometrics facility in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, the fingerprint sensor provides an easy-to-use security system for mobile computing users.
In order to produce the high-tech, thumbnail sized sensor, Philips integrated Who?Visions' TactileSense technology with its own flat-display panels. The sensor will be integrated within Who?Vision's e-thenticator MS 3000 PC Card , which is a standard Type-II-PC (PCMCIA) card.
