Lucent to hire 2,000 in Europe

MADRID, Spain, May 24 -- In order to supplement growing business throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Lucent Technologies will hire more than 2000 people for its regional offices over the next months. Lucent said it would use the internet recruiting firm mksearch.com to help look for the new employees.
Lucent has recently made several investments to bolster its work in optical and wireless technologies. In Italy Lucent provided a centre of excellence to enhance accessibility to telecommunications solutions for local businesses. In Denmark Lucent expanded its fiber manufacturing facility to increase the manufacturing capacity of its optical fiber and cable factories around the world. Lucent has invested $150 million (US) to expand its optical networking facility in Dublin, Ireland. And in its most recent venture, Lucent built an optical networking centre of excellence in Germany; one of its largest investments outside the United States.
