Osram to Light the Eurovision Song Contest

Lighting solutions provider Osram Licht AG is the official lighting partner for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal.

Like last year in Kiev, the Eurovision Song Contest stage will be bathed in brilliant light thanks to a large number of Clay Paky spotlights. Courtesy of Osram/Ralph Larmann.

For the fourth year in a row, Osram will support the May event as a supplier of modern digital lighting technology. The Eurovision Song Contest is the longest-running annual international TV song competition. It has been held, primarily, among the member countries of the European Broadcasting Union since 1956. Singers from 43 countries will appear at this year’s contest.

“The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the largest TV events in the world with a long and exciting history,” said Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO of Osram’s specialty lighting business unit. “We are immensely proud to be on board for the fourth time and to be represented by a large proportion of the lighting systems in the Altice Arena in Lisbon. Individually tailored lighting solutions from our subsidiaries Clay Paky and ADB [Stagelight] will create a unique atmosphere, stir the emotions and provide the perfect setting for the singers.”

German lighting designer Jerry Appekt is in charge of the light installations and light show effects. In addition to the Eurovision Song Contest show itself, Osram is illuminating various landmarks of the Portuguese capital. Buildings at the Praça do Comércio, the city hall and the Castelo de São Jorge will be lit in various colors, and the actual color will depend on votes by viewers at home.
