Nakamura Orders GaN Platform

The University of California at Santa Barbara's Shuji Nakamura, the inventor of the blue, green and white LED and the blue diode laser, has ordered a metallorganic chemical vapor deposition system from Emcore Corp. of Somerset, N.J. He and his research partner Steven DenBaars will use the SpectraBlue system in the development of gallium nitride-based devices and materials at the university.

Emcore and the university also have established a formal research collaboration. Nakamura and DenBaars will offer their feedback on SpectraBlue, enabling the company to integrate their recommended design and performance improvements into its future systems.
