ADVA to Acquire First Fibre
MUNICH, June 5 -- In a plan designed to increase its presence in the optical networking markets, ADVA Optical Networking has set its sights on the acquisition of First Fibre Ltd. First Fibre is a privately owned UK-based designer and manufacturer of carrier-class fiber access equipment and optical networking systems.
Some customers of First Fibre products are North American and European carriers SBCAmeritech and British Telecom. First Fibre develops Network Equipment Building Standard- and European Telecommunications Standards Institute-compliant products that support all high-speed protocols ranging from 10Mb/s to 2.5Gb/s. The systems are available with AC or DC power and can be used by single-customers or central offices via the in-band management feature. First Fibre's products include: the CityLIGHT flagship line of modular, multi-protocol, carrier-class systems for fiber access and local area network extension products; CampusLIGHT media converters, transceivers and repeaters, and CityLAN edge access products.
