Lucent Signs $330 Million Fiber Contract With Metromedia Fiber
MURRAY HILL, N.J., June 9 -- Lucent Technologies has signed a $330 million contract to install its AllWave and TrueWave RS fiber for Metromedia Fiber Network Inc. (MFN). This makes MFN Lucent's largest AllWave fiber customer. The fiber-optic networks will be installed at MFN networks in North America and Europe.
MFN said this agreement, along with others, ensures the success of its plan to install 3.6 million fiber miles internationally by 2004. This is the third contract between MFN and Lucent. The companies signed contracts in 1999 for the deployment of TrueWave fiber throughout the United States and Europe, and for MFN's long-haul backbone network that runs from New York to Washington, DC. Lucent's AllWave metropolitan fiber uses a previously untapped region in the light spectrum to provide 50 percent more usable wavelengths.
