Coherent, WaveLight Sign Laser Distribution Agreement
SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 15 -- Coherent Inc.'s Medical Group has made an international distribution agreement in which it obtained distribution rights for the Allegretto Refractive Laser System developed by WaveLight Laser Technologie AG of Erlangen, Germany. The laser is a next generation system that incorporates the latest technology for the LASIK vision correction procedure. It was originally developed by WaveLight Laser Technology for countries in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
The laser uses a 1-mm scanning laser beam in combination with a high precision system to track eye movement. This technique ensures that the desired refractive correction is achieved, said WaveLight Laser Technology. The laser's acceptance of wavefront aberration and other refractive data make it capable not only of restoring patients' vision to normal, it can allow them to have better eyesight than ever before, claim scientists. The Allegretto Laser is currently being investigated for use in the US.
