Tellabs to Set Up Center for Optical Networking, Switching Near Boston
LISLE, Ill., June 22 -- Tellabs will begin organization of a technology center for optical networking and next-generation switching in Chelmsford, Mass. on June 21, the company said. The two-building complex will contain a research and development center for optical networking, engineering support for next-generation switching and the company's Cambridge Research Center -- a collaborative effort with MIT. The company's universal telephony distribution system development work will also take place at the center.
The technology center will employ people from Bedford, Burlington, Cambridge and Wilmington, the company said. Tellabs expects to double the amount of employees it has in the Boston area within the next five years.
Tellabs' established residence in the Boston area last year when it bought NetCore Systems in Wilmington, Mass. The company also owns assets of DSP Software Engineering in Bedford, Mass.
