Where Are They Now?

In 2016 Kaitlyn Williams was awarded the first Teddi C. Laurin Scholarship. A graduate student at the University of Arizona at the time, Williams was pursuing a master’s degree in optical engineering with a focus on lens design. While completing her degree, she worked as an optical systems engineer at Raytheon Missile Systems Co. Williams has since graduated and is now employed by Apple as an optical engineer.


Brandon Born was awarded the 2017 scholarship. At the time, Born was a doctoral candidate and sessional instructor at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus in Canada. Since then, he has graduated with a doctorate in optics and photonics and currently works as a senior diffractive optics engineer at Magic Leap Inc. in Sunnyvale, Calif.


Zhenxu Bai received the 2018 scholarship as a doctoral candidate at Macquarie University in Australia and Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) in China. Bai has since completed his doctorate in optical engineering from HIT and is pursuing a doctorate from Macquarie. He has presented talks at a number of conferences and holds three patents.
