Flex Products Boosts Capacity for Optically Variable Pigments
SANTA ROSA, Calif., July 10 -- Optical Coating Laboratory Inc., through its subsidiary Flex Products Inc., has increased manufacturing capacity for its line of optically variable high performance pigments. Engineers at Flex Products have designed and installed a high vacuum roll-to-roll manufacturing machine (BETA IV) which will increase capacity by 35 percent. The machine is the first of three in a plan to add to production at manufacturing facilities in Santa Rosa, Calif. and Beijing, China.
We take great pride and satisfaction in the team effort that brought this project to completion in record time, weeks ahead of schedule, said Roy Bie, general manager of Flex Products. From the initial commissioning of the project, through design and installation, to our first product shipment, our people have demonstrated leading edge capability in thin-film technology.
Optical Coating Laboratory Inc., a subsidiary of JDS Uniphase, designs and manufactures products based on thin film coatings by using light to control reflection, absorption, and color on a molecular level. Their products can be used in anything from fiber optic telecommunications systems to medical and analytical instruments, the company said. Flex Products manufactures optically variable pigments that are used on about 65 currencies around the world to prevent counterfeiting.
