Toppan Printing Adds Image Sensing Capabilities with Brookman Technology Acquisition
Tokyo-based Toppan Printing is acquiring Brookman Technology Inc. Based in Hamamatsu, Japan, Brookman is a venture company originating from Shizuoka University that develops and provides custom CMOS image sensors and design services and time-of-flight sensor design technology. Toppan said Brookman Technology is scheduled to be made a subsidiary of Toppan by the end of March 2021. Toppan entered into a capital and business agreement with Brookman Technology in 2017.
As independents, the two companies subsequently collaborated on research and development in the field of 3D image sensing. Toppan said the acquisition will enable full-scale entry into the 3D image sensing market. Applications for Brookman’s products include autonomous robotics, test and measurement, and AR/VR.
