RVSI, Intermec Agree to Take on Aerospace Market Together
CANTON, Mass., July 13 -- Robotic Vision Systems Inc. (Canton, Mass.) and Intermec Technologies Corp. (Everett, Wash.) have decided to team-up in a plan to provide the necessary hardware, technology and integration services needed to satisfy new SPEC 2000 and ISO/ANSI MH10 requirements for military and commercial aircraft.
The Air Transport Association of America's SPEC 2000 program has provided new information requirements on parts and repair services for commercial and civilian aircraft, and the US Department of Defense has set similar standards for military aircraft with its ISO/ANSI MH10 program. The new standards require that all interchangeable parts installed in military and commercial aircraft -- potentially billions of parts -- be inscribed with a permanent identification symbol in order to improve safety and reduce maintenance costs.
The parts will need either a 2-D Data Matrix symbol or a bar code to satisfy the new requirements. And Robotic Vision Systems will prepare hand-held and fixed-mount imagers that can mark, verify markings and read parts that have been directly marked by laser, dot peen, inkjet, or chemical etch with a 2-D Data Matrix symbol, the company said. Intermec will contribute scanners, printers and wireless-network hardware, in addition to services and program management to customers.
