Subsea Lidar Deployed in North Sea Project

3D at Depth Inc., a commercial subsea lidar (SL) laser technology company, completed a series of measurements at eight locations in support of an initiative that seeks to improve oil recovery on the Norwegian continental shelf. 3D at Depth performed the measurements for Subsea 7, a subsea engineering, construction, and services company serving the offshore energy industry.

3D at Depth’s measurements supported installation campaigns for pipeline bundle systems. Measurements were required at each location for multiple parallel spools, which would be installed as single cassettes between the pipeline bundles to wellheads and manifolds. After the scans were completed, data sets were exported into standard formats for measurement, quality control, visualization, and analysis.

The terrestrial and subsea point cloud data that the team obtained enabled it to derive metrology results for the production manifold hubs; these would be installed in later campaigns. The point clouds were also used during the spool design process and for cassette spool clash assessments.

The Snorre Expansion Project will increase production from the Snorre field by almost 200 million barrels and will extend the field life beyond the year 2040, 3D at Depth said in a media release.
