Carrier1 Lights German Fiber Optic Ring
ZURICH, Switzerland, July 21 -- Carrier1 International SA has completed and put into operation its German fiber optic network. The Carrier1 German ring encompasses 2370 km and connects 14 cities in Germany, with a direct connection from the cities of Dortmund and Hanover to Berlin coming in the fall, said Carrier1. The Carrier1 German Ring is integrated into the Carrier1 Pan European Network, which connects European economic centers across such countries as England, France, Switzerland and Italy.
Carrier1 has already sold enough fiber pairs to cover the 150 million Euro investment needed to build the fiber optic network, the company said. This included the cost of the electronic equipment needed to activate, or light , the network. The investment in the fiber optic network was in keeping with the cost of other network build projects because of the capital sharing management agreement with Metromedia Fibre Networks and Viatel that was implemented to complete the German ring.
