Marconi Lands Multi-Billion Dollar British Telecom Contract
PITTSBURGH, July 25 -- Marconi plc will supply $3 billion worth of optical networking and new synchronous digital hierarchy equipment -- among other services -- to British Telecom for the construction of Europe's most advanced all optical network, said Marconi.
Marconi will supply its line of SmartPhotoniX dense wavelength division multiplexing products -- displayed at SUPERCOMM2000 in Atlanta -- for the construction of the complete next generation Optical Network. During the five-year contract Marconi will be the exclusive supplier with the purpose of expanding British Telecom's core synchronous digital hierarchy network, which will continue to carry growth in traffic at lower bandwidths.
