Optelecom's Electro-Optic Systems Wins Three Contracts
GAITHERSBURG, Md., July 31 -- Optelecom Inc. has received orders for contract services performed by its Electro-Optic Systems Group from Bae Systems Underwater Weapons Div., the Boeing Co. and Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Amounts of the contracts were not released.
Bae Systems ordered a prototype underwater fiber optic cable-dispensing unit to aid in the verification of a remote underwater vehicle control method. The Boeing Co. will use Optelecom as a demonstration photonic communication system design resource for its contract with the US Air Force's Advanced Vehicle Management Technology Program. Wright Patterson Air Force Base will oversee a Small Business Innovation Research Phase I award the company received for work in aeronautical sciences and flight control technology for military aerospace vehicles.
These contracts complement our optical fiber gyro precision coil winding work and open up opportunities for Optelecom to supply a wider range of components to Electro-Optic system integrators, said Ron Smith, manager of the Optelecom Electro-Optic Systems Group.
