LASER World of PHOTONICS Returns to Munich, Debuts Quantum Expo

Photonics industry market leaders, research institutes, and, thanks to a dedicated trade fair platform in the quantum space, drivers in the quantum industry will return to Munich April 26-29 for LASER World of PHOTONICS. The event is taking place for the 25th time in 2022, after last year’s trade fair was postponed.

The trade fair spotlights photonics components, systems, and applications.

In addition to the photonics event and trade fair, the World of QUANTUM will debut in 2022, in its own exhibition hall. Coordinated by Messe Munchen, World of QUANTUM will establish a platform to network research, industry, and users; discuss suitable implementation of the latest research results in systems; and present initial examples for applying this future technology in computing and cryptography, sensors and imaging, communication, and medicine.

“Just like studying the properties of the photon played a central role in our understanding of the quantum properties of nature, the photon will play a central role when it comes to implementing quantum technologies in the future,” said Toptica Photonics AG President Wilhelm Kaenders. “In the next few years, Munich will become a central marketplace for this key technology in this young century.”

Additionally, global market leaders and institutions will be on site to present their latest products and research approaches for quantum applications. The QUANTUM World will feature an exhibition format developed specifically for the premiere. It will offer a range of formats tailored to the needs of research associations, quantum clusters, global players, medium-size solution providers, and startups. Exhibitors include IBM, AQT, the Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology, Fraunhofer institutes, and multiple quantum-focused clusters and associations. Industry exhibitors include solutions providers such as Thorlabs, PicoQuant, Q.ANT, KETS Quantum Security, KEEQuant, RedWave Labs, and Optica.

“The quantum community is calling for a trade fair platform. The time is right for World of QUANTUM,” said Anke Odouli, exhibition director for LASER World of PHOTONICS.

“We’ve reached a point in quantum computing where this technology no longer belongs just in the laboratory,” added Walter Riess, head of the science and technology department at IBM Research in Zürich.

According to Immanuel Bloch, spokesman at the Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology, scientists and business people are often active in different networks. “The trade fair offers a platform for networking and ideal starting points for companies looking to get involved in this growing, highly technological field,” Bloch said. “The basic research has already led to significant progress in the field of quantum technologies. What we need now is for industry to get involved in order to push back the boundaries of what is possible.”

LASER World of PHOTONICS is reporting that, as of mid-January, companies from 30 countries have registered to attend. The next World of Photonics Congress following the event and trade fair in April will be in June 2023 with the next trade fair.
