MICLEDI to Collaborate with GlobalFoundries on Micro-LED Displays

MICLEDI Microdisplays, a developer of microLED arrays for augmented reality glasses, will partner with GlobalFoundries in a manufacturing collaboration to develop displays for augmented reality glasses. Under the agreement, MICLEDI’s solution will be combined with GlobalFoundries’ 22FDX platform, which provides the performance, ultralow power, and broad feature integration capability necessary to mass-produce MICLEDI’s microLED arrays. Such companion integrated circuits will provide the image processing, driver, and control functions necessary to complete the display modules using wafer-to-wafer hybrid bonding.

MICLEDI was spun out from Belgian R&D center imec in 2019. Its technology is based on a combination of III/V materials processing, 3D integration, and 300-mm silicon-based processing combined with a proprietary ASIC.
