Optica Awards Edwin H. Land Medal; Amplitude Laser Names President: People in the News: 04/12/23

Optica awarded the Edwin H. Land Medal to Susana Marcos, the David R. Williams director of the Center for Visual Science at the University of Rochester. Marcos is a co-founder of 2EyesVision SL and a co-inventor of the SimVis technology that allows patients to “try on” multifocal corrections before putting in contact lenses or having an intraocular lens implantation. Marcos’ research is focused on visual optics and ocular imaging, as well as the development of new techniques for the evaluation of the eye.

FARMINGTON, Conn. — TRUMPF named Justin Gasparovich head of multi-axis technical services. Gasparovich previously served as project and product manager. Before joining TRUMPF, Gasparovich worked as an engineer at Ethicon, a medical equipment manufacturing company.

PESSAC, France — Amplitude Laser Group, a provider of ultrafast lasers, appointed Damien Buet president. Buet joins Amplitude from automotive technology company Faurecia, where he served as vice president of the company’s zero emissions division. Prior to Faurecia, Buet served in a variety of leadership roles at Delphi, also an automotive technology company. Amplitude also named Eric Mottay to its board.

MUNICH — Sensor technology company Instrument Systems named Yasumasa Kuboyama managing director. Kuboyama succeeds Tsutomu Ogasawara, who will return to Japan to assume managerial tasks in the business unit Konica Minolta Sensing, of which Instrument Systems is part. Kuboyama joined Konica Minolta Sensing in 2017 and served as head of the Konica Minolta Sensing Global Group Management Department since 2021. Ogasawara served as managing director of Instrument Systems in Germany since December 2016.

GLASGOW, Scotland — Richard Hogg, CTO and technical adviser to semiconductor technology company III-V Epi, will take on a new role as professor of photonics at Aston University of Photonics Technology, starting in May. His CTO role with III-V Epi will be unchanged.

EINDHOVEN, Netherlands — EFFECT Photonics, a developer of integrated optical solutions, named Ted Schmidt senior vice president of product development. Tony Englese will serve as vice president of operations, and Veronique Gremmen-de-Groot will serve as global head of resources.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Laser Photonics Corp., a developer of laser technology for cleaning and materials applications, appointed William J. Campbell interim CFO, effective immediately. Campbell most recently served as the division CFO for the Americas at Autoliv, a provider of automotive safety products.
