Stephen Streiffer Named Director of ORNL: People in the News: 08/02/23

Stephen Streiffer was named director of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Streiffer serves as interim director at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and will join ORNL in October. Streiffer joined SLAC last year as Stanford University’s vice president responsible for oversight of the lab. He was named interim director in February 2023 after he spent 24 years in research and leadership positions at Argonne National Laboratory, concluding his tenure as the lab’s deputy director for science and technology. At Argonne, Streiffer led the Photon Sciences Directorate and served as director of the Advanced Photon Source.

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — IPG Photonics’ board of directors elected Kolleen Kennedy as a new director of the company, increasing the size of the board to 11 directors. Kennedy spent over two decades at Varian Medical Systems, where she most recently served as president for proton solutions and chief growth officer. Kennedy has served as a member of the board of ICU Medical Inc., a manufacturer of medical technologies, since 2021.

CAMPBELL, Calif. — Additive manufacturing technology company Velo3D named Adrian Keppler to its board of directors. Keppler is founder and CEO of AM Scalation, an additive manufacturing consulting company. In addition, he is senior adviser for Digital Manufacturing at H&Z, a management consultancy in Europe.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Teledyne Technologies’ board of directors promoted George Bobb III to executive vice president of Teledyne. Additionally, Susan Main, senior vice president and CFO, will retire from her position at Teledyne effective Dec. 1. She will be succeeded by Stephen Blackwood, current senior vice president, strategic sourcing, tax and treasure, who will assume the roles of senior vice president and CFO effective Dec. 1. Blackwood will be succeeded by Luis Arrieta, former executive director and assistant treasurer at Amgen, also on Dec. 1.

FARMINGTON, Conn. — TRUMPF named Ian Frank head of applications engineers for TruLaser laser cutting machines at TRUMPF Inc.’s North American headquarters. In addition to TruLaser engineers, Frank will oversee the team of CARE engineers who work with TRUMPF sales representatives across the U.S. Additionally, Travis Stempky now serves as head of laser technology applications at TRUMPF Inc.’s Laser Technology Center in Plymouth, Mich., and in Santa Clara, Calif.

MUNICH — Rivada Space Networks appointed Donald Chew to lead commercial activities for the company in the Asia Pacific region. Chew has more than 25 years of experience in the telecom and satellite industries in the region, including key roles developing maritime and aero connectivity for Singtel and overseeing data and maritime projects for AsiaSat. He was also responsible for developing special connectivity projects at Kacific, a company that delivers satellite broadband to isolated islands in the Pacific Ocean and Southeast Asia.

BAYAN LEPAS, Malaysia — Electronics manufacturing services provider ESCATEC, a developer of micro-optoelectromechanical systems (MOEMS) technology, appointed Charles-Alexandre Albin chief sales officer. Albin serves as the group’s director of strategic development and as a member of the board of directors. The new role will oversee ESCATEC’s international business development team and strategic development initiatives, with the key mandate of growing the group’s customer base in emerging market segments.

STUTTGART — AIT Goehner GmbH named Nico Barthel as the company’s technical director. Barthel has extensive experience in machine vision, having previously served in leadership roles for MSTVision GmbH and aku.automation GmbH. AIT Goehner is an integrator and seller of optical testing and identification systems.
