SuperLight Photonics Names CEO; Diamond Light Source Taps Leader: People in the News: 08/16/2023

SuperLight Photonics, a developer of supercontinuum generation lasers, named Cees Links CEO. The University of Twente spinout is focused on applications spectrometry, OCT, crop management, surface inspection, and pollution detection enabled by PIC solutions.

CHILTON, England — Gianluigi Botton will become CEO of the U.K.’s national synchrotron, Diamond Light Source. Botton, who serves as science director of the Canadian Light Source, will assume the role in October and will take over from Andrea Ward. Botton, a spectroscopy and microscopy expert, established the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy and is a professor in the department of materials science and engineering at McMaster University (Ontario).

KISTA, Sweden — Sivers Semiconductors AB named Bami Bastani a strategic adviser to the board and management. Bastani will work to further strengthen the company’s focus on the U.S. and global markets and provide guidance related to the semiconductor, photonics, 5G, and satellite communications ecosystems. Bastani has over 40 years of industry experience. He recently served as senior vice president and general manager at GLOBALFOUNDRIES, leading the mobile and wireless infrastructure business unit. He transitioned to senior vice president and senior adviser to the CEO in 2022.

WAGENIGEN, Netherlands — Biophotonics company Surfix Diagnostics, a developer of lab-on-a-chip solutions for early detection and monitoring of solid tumors in liquid biopsies, appointed Jos Lunenberg CEO and managing director. Lunenberg has over 30 years of experience in the life sciences industry, in entrepreneurship, marketing strategy, fundraising, and business management. He formerly served on the executive management teams at CERUS Europe BV and Cryo-Save NV, as well as global marketing director at Organon NV. In addition, Lunenberg is founder of ENPICOM, a biomedical software company. Surfix uses a photonic biosensor platform as the core if its technology.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rivada Space Networks added Michèle Flournoy, former U.S. under secretary of defense, to its board of directors. Flournoy was under secretary of defense for policy during President Barack Obama’s first term, serving as principal adviser to the secretary of defense in the formulation of national security and defense policy, in oversight of military plans and operations, and in National Security Council deliberations. In 2017, she co-founded WestExec Advisors, a strategic advisory firm in Washington, D.C. The company earlier this year added former Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to its board.
