Trellis Claims Record Photonic Switching Speed

DENVER, Aug. 30 --Trellis Photonics (Columbia, Md.) says it has attained sub-microsecond photonic switching speed, the fastest known optical speed reached in the industry. The demonstration took place at the annual National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference in Denver, Colo. The company credited its electroholography technology for attaining the record speed.
The ability of electroholography to achieve this switching speed further demonstrates the technical superiority of a solid state switching device over other technologies, said Tim Cahall, CEO of Trellis Photonics. The inherent speed of electroholography makes our Intelligent Lambda Switch the fastest photonic switch in the world.
Electroholography is based on solid-state technology that uses Potassium Lithium Tantalate Niobate (KLTN) crystals with wavelength specific holograms written into the crystal.
