Newport Gets Order for AutoAlign Assembly Equipment
IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 30 -- Newport Corp. has received a $1.6 million order from Picolight Inc. in Boulder, Colo. for AutoAlignWaveguide Assembly Workstations. This was the second order Picolight has made with Newport, the first being a $1-million request for AutoAlign workstations. The new systems will ship during the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2001, Newport said.
Picolight uses the AutoAlign systems for high-precision assembly of its second-generation vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser, which is the company's main technology in the manufacture of high-speed networking optoelectronic components. Picolight manufactures and markets VCSEL-based fiber optic components that are sold to storage area networking, local area networking, telecom switch, and computer suppliers.
