VIAVI Solutions Agrees to Acquire Spirent in $1.3B Deal

VIAVI Solutions has entered into an agreement to acquire London-based test and measurement company Spirent for £1 billion ($1.3 billion). The acquisition expands VIAVI’s portfolio by providing complementary and synergistic products for networking and 5G and 6G infrastructure, as well as diversification into areas like cloud service, enterprise/IT networks, 5G private networks, 6G+, and position, navigation, and timing.

The acquisition is expected to close during the second half of 2024.

Spirent is a provider of products, services, and managed solutions for test assurance and automation of technologies including 5G, software-defined wide area networks, cloud, and autonomous vehicles. The company’s international positioning, navigation and timing business serves customers in research and development, verification, and integration testing, including the testing of hybrid positioning and sensor fusion under real-world conditions. The company previously acquired wireless testing company octoScope in 2021.

VIAVI, formerly part of JDS Uniphase, along with Lumentum, previously acquired position, navigation, and timing solutions provider Jackson Labs in 2022. The company had previously made offers to acquire fellow test and measurement company EXFO in 2021 and 2020. VIAVI has more than 3600 employees in 50 locations throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
