Drexler to Provide LaserCard Auto Registration Cards in South Asia
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 1 -- Drexler Technology Corp. has signed a supply contract to distribute its chip ready optical memory cards to a systems integration company for use in South Asia. The cards are used for high security smart/optical motor vehicle registration cards by a regional government in South Asia.
The smart/optical vehicle registration IDs contain a 16-mm wide optical memory stripe that contains information about the vehicle that cannot be changed by the user, Drexler Technology said. Such information will make it difficult to steal motor vehicles, as well as hinder commercial vehicle operators from creating fake registration documents to keep from having to pay annual vehicle registration fees.
The systems integration company has paid Drexler a series of advanced payments of about $1 million since June in anticipation of receiving LaserCard optical memory cards for the motor vehicle ID card program.
