Spectra-Physics Acquires LAS GmbH
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 6 -- In a move to increase its presence in the telecommunications and semiconductor markets, Spectra-Physics has acquired Laser Analytical Systems GmbH for an undisclosed amount of cash. Located in Stahnsdorf, Germany, the manufacturer of solid state lasers and accessories will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Spectra-Physics.
LAS has perfected critical technology for solid state, ultraviolet light generation that is an excellent complement to our existing laser platforms, said Patrick L. Edsell, chairman, president and CEO of Spectra-Physics. Incorporating this technology into our product lines will enable us to further expand our presence in the telecommunications market, as well as maintain our position as the dominant supplier of solid state, ultraviolet lasers.
A majority-owned subsidiary of Thermo Electron Corp., Spectra-Physics supplies a variety of photonics applications worldwide.
