PLAINVIEW, NY, Sept. 11 -- Veeco Instruments Inc. has netted $4 million in orders for multiple units of its Ion Tech Spector Ion Beam Deposition systems from Read-Rite Corp. in Fremont, Calif. Scion Photonics Inc., a recently formed unit of Read-Rite, will use the systems to manufacture dense wavelength division multiplexing filters and other optical communications components for the fiber optic market.
We are pleased that the combination of Read-Rite's core competencies in process technology and automated manufacturing and Veeco's optical filter ion beam deposition technology permitted our rapid launch of Scion Photonics, said Alan Lowe, president and CEO of Read-Rite. It is our intention to become the leading independent supplier of optical components.
