DRS Delivers First North American Advanced Retinal Imaging System
PARSIPPANY, N.J., Sept. 27 -- DRS Technologies Inc.'s Panoramic200 Non-Myriatic Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope, used by physicians for early detection of retinal disease, is now available in North America. The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the high-resolution, ultra-wide field retinal imaging system for use in the large and rapidly growing biomedical vision care market. DRS Technologies has drawn from its experience providing the US military with complex electro-optical targeting and laser systems to successfully cross over into the commercial eye care industry, the company said.
The company prepared the new ophthalmoscope at its optronics unit in Palm Bay, Fla., for delivery to The New England Eye Center in Boston, Mass. The company will also make deliveries to customers across the US and Canada this year financed by an initial $4.1 million contract currently given to DRS by Optos plc.
