Lucent to Build 10-Gb Optical Networks for China's Fujian Mobile
BEIJING, Sept. 29 -- Lucent Technologies has signed a contract in which it will provide three 10-Gb backbone optical networks to Fujian Mobile Communications Co. Ltd. of China. Fujian Mobile will pay $8.8 million (US) for Lucent's WaveStar TDM 10G synchronous digital hierarchy system and other optical networking systems. These networks will be deployed in China's Fujian Province and will provide the transmission network for Fujian Mobile's GSM mobile services, which serve more than 32.6 million customers in Southern China. With Lucent's networks, Fujian Mobile will be able to transmit up to 1 million wireless calls at the same time, said Fujian Mobile.
